I am also enjoying the full size keyboard. I have not had to sacrifice any speed in my typing, and I have not experienced any wrist discomfort.
I could see myself updating the RAM and hard drive eventually, but since I'm mainly going to use it for word processing and web surfing, the speed is adequate. The keyboard took just five minutes to get used to--it's really intuitive for someone who types a lot, despite the fact it's a little smaller than the standard.
This is exactly what I needed - lightweight, small and easy to carry without sacrificing screen quality and processing speed. The keyboard is extremely comfortable for its size, the screen crisp and clear.
The netbooks in particular are WELL designed. I had an Asus for two years, but its keyboard was not full size and the hard drive not large enough. For academic work "on the road" and for international travel, I am finding the Toshiba Mini 505-N508 perfect. Set up was easy, it was ready to use out of the box. It's solidly constructed and doesn't look like it going to fall apart after a couple of uses. If you don't expect it to do everything your PC can do, you will be pleased. This unit is very much like the NB305 series with the card reader location exchanged with the audio inputs, by moving the reader to the front (beneath the touchpad) and vice versa.
The speaker is small, but sounds great to me. The battery has been holding up superbly. I purchased this at a small military retail outlet at a fairly remote location in the Middle East and it came out of the box undamaged and ready to go, with no problems. This is a great buy and I'm pleasantly surprised by the NB505's capabilities, capacity and quality. I bought this computer a few weeks ago and so far my experience has been very positive. This netbook is solidly constructed and is ready to use out of the box. My only complaint it the backspace key is slightly out of position and I sometimes hit the = key instead. The touchpad works well, but I bought a wireless mouse as that is more comfortable to navigate lengthy documents.
Overall it's just a nice functional little computer, perfect for word processing, taking notes in class, and surfing the internet. I wouldn't want to use it for any sort of heavy duty graphics processing but I love the fact that the battery lasts at least 8 hours, on pretty average settings too not even the extreme power saving mode. I have older Toshiba laptops with excellent experience, in fact they are still working (WIN98, 450Mb HD, 64Mb RAM)! I decided to take the risk and bought the netbook from Amazon. Sure there are others out there with more bells and whistles but for the price I got exactly what I wanted and needed. The battery life is awesome. It's plenty loud and sounds fine. I also upgraded to windows 7 home premium, which boosted performance in my opinion.
