Good Product - Sysinternals Antivirus Software Review

By Bella Perez

However, it will scan only the files a user has access to. Therefore, it is advised to run a Full System Scan as an administrator or as a user who has administrative rights, so the Full System Scan will be able to perform a comprehensive scan for viruses and other security threats.

So, yeah, I'm glad I am still a loyal Norton customer. To anybody still shy after the top-heavy, occasionally clunky versions from, say 2004-2007, give NIS another try. Tried others when Norton hiccupped a few years back, but they came back stronger than ever. I always use additional free products to augment as no one program catches everything. User Interface Norton Internet Security is, in sum, an easy-to-use program with excellent detection rates for viruses and other malware. Plus, it has a low memory and CPU footprint. All in all this is a great deal! The version of NIS is very similar to the 2010 version, which I found eminently satisfactory. It is hard for me to try another brand. We have used Norton Internet Security for all our computers for a number of years. This program installed easily and quickly. I really feel secure with this program because a virus actually "killed" my last computer. Essentially, you are buying a new license each year. I skipped NIS one year because I found ZoneAlarm for free after rebates and thought I would give it a try since I had used their fantastic free firewall program for years.

I had to try to remember all the settings I made changes to in the past and manually enter them once the installation was complete. Therefore, my advice is to buy from Amazon to save a few dollars, but before doing the installation - look up and write down all your settings so they can be manually reentered, in case you find yours deleted too. At about $10 per computer (for 3 PCs), it's a bargain. I always recommend using a second on-demand product (such as Malaware Bytes AntiMalware or Super AntiSpyware Remover) occasionally. During installation, you may notice wireless connection disconnecting a couple of times, annoying, but doesn't affect anything. There has been slight improvement in performance this year.

Now, every-time I boot my computer, I open Norton and turn the whole thing off until next reboot. It is inconvenient and time consuming to do this, but that is how annoying I find this software.

Symantec product support has not been helpful. Uninstalling the program and putting 2010 back on completely solved the problem on the Win 7 ultimate system. It's easy to install and use, doesn't bloat my system, and most importantly, doesn't slow down my other programs and processes. I highly recommend it! In addition, time your install to be close to your current expiration date; otherwise, you are cutting yourself short on coverage. Have been using Norton Internet security for several years and has provided my computers with great security.
