Tips To Use When You Need To Email Large Attachments

By Melody Klein

At times, email attachments exceeding the standard data size have to be sent. These are often blocked by providers due to their significantly big size, thus making it difficult to send. However, developments in the virtual world have found ways to make sending of larger files possible. Let us discuss some tips which will enable you to email large attachments.

The first thing to do is to look for an e-mail provider that allows one to send larger files. These providers have finally realized the need that many people have to send larger attachments such as videos, photo albums and presentations. Some providers even allow a maximum of 10 MB.

One of the key constraints to be kept in mind is that sending huge attachments usually slows down the server and the system. Usually 10 MB is good enough for sending music files, documents with a lot of formatting and PDF files. So as a user, the first thing would be to check the limit the e-mail provider has set.

Another method is to use several separate e-mails, one after the other. This is a common technique that some people use when they have to send multiple photos, for instance. They will send a few photos which are within the attachment limit in one e-mail, and then few more in another e-mail and so on. But in case the user has a lot of photos, this will be a time consuming activity.

Similarly, in case the user wants to send one very huge file, there are applications available which can help spilt this huge file into multiple smaller files. So the user can split this single big file into chunks of smaller files. Then the user can send these individual chunks in separate e-mails to the recipient. Upon receiving all these parts, the recipient can rebuild the original file, by using the same software that was used to split the file.

Another good option to email large attachments is to use file storage sites. These sites allow you to upload large files with a link they provide. Quite a few of these sites do not have any membership fees. However, they also have some restrictions, like if the attachment is not downloaded within a specific period of time, then it is deleted. But, despite this limitation, this is one of best ways to send big audio files, photo albums, CAD Drawings and similar things.
