Internet Marketing Without The Hard Sell

By Randy Mclean

Internet marketing has become and essential way for business owners to increase their revenue and bring more users to their sites. There are many marketing methods that are quite effective, but if you do the wrong thing you can do great harm to your business. You should keep your eyes open and make sure that you do not do any of the following things.

Because of its micro-blogging nature, Twitter is chock full of verbal shortcuts and symbols to save room. Getting to know these, like hashtags, is essential for any business to get the most out of the medium. Oftentimes, hashtags help you narrow down where your target audience really is on Twitter, and they become the best way to communicate with them, too.

According to statistics, visitors of web pages stay longer on a site if there is an informative video that can help them with their needs. Check out these sites to learn how to create DIY videos to help with your SEO strategies - Windows Video Editor, Create BlackBerry Software

Subscribe to newsletters that are going to introduce you to the latest technology. This is a great way to keep up with what there is to know and add to your website. When you keep up with the latest technology, you can apply it to your site before anyone else does the same to theirs. Your site visitors are more likely to trust you and your website when they realize that you are up to date when it comes to technology. This is a great way to gain trust and a good fan-base from people.

Design a comprehensive marketing strategy, but leave yourself enough room to adapt your plan in function of how your audience is responding. Make sure your strategy includes a Search Engine Optimization plan and a way to attract interest from your target audience. For instance, by advertising contests on sites, your potential customers are likely to see or by placing targeted banners and ads on social networks. Keep track of your results and consolidate the aspects of your campaign that work best.

If you are not sure about what your target audience wants, create surveys. Place these surveys on your site and advertise them on social networks and by email. Offer a free sample or a discount to anyone who fills out your survey, or organize a contest or a drawing: have people fill out a survey to enter your contest. Make sure you give out one of your products so that the people who show interest in your drawing or contest actually correspond to your target audience.

You can add a video blog every so often to update people with what is new with your site. People like to see a face sometimes, and feel like they are being interacted with a bit more when you update regularly. Go ahead and post a video blog, and don't be shy.

Create a website that is user friendly. Beware of making a website with too many bells and whistles--remember, this website has to be able to be loaded on any number of platforms. You need to be able to have a site that works on a smartphone, on a tablet, and on a desktop computer. Make a site that is easy to navigate, full of smart and relevant content, and one that solves the problems that your customers and prospective customers have.

All of the missteps highlighted above are very simple to avoid. If one or all of these mistakes are made it could have heavy consequences. Look out for these and make sure that you do the bast that you can to be a success with all of your marketing efforts. It is okay if you make a mistake or two at first, but do your best to make them a thing of the past.
